Happy New Year

I know there’s still 7 hours to go but here’s to a happy new year from me… hopefully nothing as epic as this happens in 2009

Things to Keep in the Car

I’m aware that lately my postings have been anything I’ve found interesting or disturbing enough to share without actually being my own creations, but it turns out sometimes between working and being a dad I do have time to write something. You’ll never know what situation could come up so it’s important to be prepared for the worst so I present:

Juz’s List of Things to Keep in the Car

1. Spare wheel - So many people I know don’t carry a spare. It doesn’t make sense because this is one of the most common causes of a disabled car, and you’ll be face palming thinking about it sitting in the garage because you never bothered to put it back in after your stereo install.

2. Fire Extinguisher and First Aid kit - I put the two of these together because they’re just as important as each other. Hypocritically enough I haven’t actually gotten around to buying them yet, but it is on the shortlist of upcoming car purchases. Won’t my face be red when my car’s a smouldering wreck burned to the ground?!

3. Disposable Camera - That granny in the gold Camry can do a lot of damage and it’s important to have a camera in case insurance gets involved… or in case of burnouts, whatever - unless of coarse your camera phone is half decent, then this is redundant.

NASA Wants Their Duckies Back

NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of America, responsible for apparently sending humans to the Moon would like their rubber duckies back - all 90 of them. As bizarre as it sounds this headline isn’t from The Onion - it’s real!

The US space agency has yet to find any trace of 90 bathtub toys that were dropped through holes in Greenland’s ice three months ago in an effort to track the way the Arctic icecap is melting. Scientists threw the ducks into tubular holes known as “moulins” in the Jakobshavn glacier on Greenland’s west coast, hoping they would find their way into channels beneath the hard-packed surface, to track the flow of melt water into the ocean.

Either somebodies stealing them or the Hollow Earth Theory is correct (Agartha?). Anyway read about the ducks over at The Guardian.

Gamespot Editor Gives X360 a Proper Funeral

That title is just too damned creepy. OK, I’ve heard about having a passion for gaming but this is just one of those things which drags that passion over the line into psychosis.

Master Chief gave his goodbyes and pulled himself together. As they were about to leave, they were surprised with an unexpected guest. It was Xbox 360’s biological father, Xbox.

Yes, you can give it a read over at Gamespot - but do you want to?!

Kim Jong-Il Interprets Sunrise As Act Of War

No, this isn’t something the mainstream media couldn’t be bothered covering - it’s an article from The Onion (a news parody publication which has gone mainstream). Read it and found it too good to pass up sharing.

PYONGYANG, NORTH KOREA–Increasingly defiant toward international pressure since his nation’s first nuclear test in early October, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il condemned this morning’s sunrise, calling it “another hostile, deliberately timed act by the world community” and “a clear and blatant declaration of war.” According to North Korean military sources, the sunrise, sighted at 6:17 a.m. by patrolling officers, was not fully confirmed until an hour later, at which time Kim assessed the threat himself, and immediately released a harshly worded warning to the U.S. and the United Nations Security Council.

Seeing these unauthorized photos I posted about back in 2006, it’s hard to completely dismiss this type of scenario from ever actually happening. Read the article here [via The Onion].

Incredible Pictures of the Sky

All of these pictures originally came from this website: http://bellflower.elfle.com/the-sky-can-be-incredible.html, I’m just rehosting them all in case they disappear (happens a lot unsurprisingly). If you’re any of the original photographers (I doubt any one person could live in a place with such freaky skies) and want them removed please let me know and I’ll get right on it.

I think they’re pretty amazing, pictures surely couldn’t do these scenes justice. Hit the continue reading link to see the full gallery.
