About DARKCOLD
DARKCOLD has been a lot of things in its time. From its registration on 22 July, 2004 it started life as a continuation of my personal website hosted at bigpond (who provided me with 10mb) and redirected through http://justinz.tk/. Featuring all sorts of things from product reviews, photos of friends and their cars, internet memes, my personal profile, message boards (so many message boards), my eBay store and much more. DARKCOLD has always been a reflection of myself, except for that one time when I tried to make it in to a professional product review site (but decided to drop that idea after realizing companies don’t give out review samples to just anybody).
As of late 2006 the website underwent a transformation from being based on php-nuke (a content management system used for most of the time prior), to running wordpress (a blogging software). This changed the way DARKCOLD worked altogether, certainly for the better.
During this period of growth I felt as though I couldn’t keep up, enlisting the help of some authors (special mention has to be given to Hakhawk [Troy] for his contributions), before realizing it wasn’t working out and going back to doing it solo. It was after this time I decided to do the “DARKCOLD Refresh”, which was basically wiping out Wordpress and attempting to move to PHPBB3. That decision was made because a lot of the previously posted content no longer worked (videos and links), and I felt basing the blog around a forum software would be a good idea. I realized I was wrong after seeing the shortcomings of a standard PHPBB installation (and lack of a quality portal extension), and quickly moved back to Wordpress. My current idea to combat broken links is to include more information in the posts (pictures and text) so if the original does go down it will still be partially mirrored to some extent, or at least provide something.
DARKCOLD is powered by the Wordpress blogging software and gets its style from a largely modified version of the Aeros theme and edited to suit my needs.
