I know I don’t usually make two posts in a row with video content, but I couldn’t help myself. I present some very disturbing clips I had lieing around on a DVD; from a collection of commercials to motorshow footage and rare footage of the Torana GTR-X Concept car in testing and development. First up is the hilarious commercials compilation, with more on ‘continue reading’.

It was about time I uploaded something to youtube. I present a video I was given on DVD a long time ago, which was originally given out to the press and embargo’d until the proper release. It’s a rare video of the development of the 2001+ Holden Monaro (aka GTO and VXR depending on where you live), as well as featuring footage of the development of the Holden Adventra

Look out for the Adventra with a VX front end, which I’ve never seen or heard of anywhere in my life except this video!

I was just wondering when something new which is Holden related would come out of GM (or Holden), and here it is: the Pontiac G8 GXP Street Edition Concept Car. The red highlights remind me a bit of the Coupe 60, definitely tasteful (and tasty) but what’s most interesting is what’s under the bonnet:

Both the Pontiac G8 GXP and the LSX454 crate engine from GM Performance Parts are new this fall. GM engineers figured there was no better way to highlight them than combining them in an intimidating street machine. In factory form, the G8 GXP features a 6.2L (376-cu.-in.) V-8 rated at 415 horsepower (309 kW) and 415 lb.-ft. of torque (562 Nm), but the new LSX454 (part number 19166972) delivers 7.4 liters of unadulterated grunt. It cranks out 638 horsepower (476 kW) and 600 lb.-ft. of torque (813 Nm). The engine uses the LSX Bowtie cylinder block, new six-bolt LSX cylinder heads and an all-forged rotating assembly. Backing the LSX454 is the GXP’s Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission.

Definitely worth a watch

Whew, that’s a long title. This tutorial is going to show you how to change the transmission fluid and filter on a VS, VT, VX and VY Commodore which has the 4L60E automatic gearbox. It could potentially be similar for different cars within the GM family which feature the same 4L60E gearbox but since I can’t guarantee that I’ll just say it’s for the Commodore. Please note some things may be different for the VT and newer as my car is a VS, so please keep that in mind.

First up I’ll list the things required:

Good news in the face of rising fuel prices, Holden has announced that from 2009 the V8 model Commodores will feature Active Fuel Management, basically meaning when not under heavy load, the car will run on 4 cylinders instead of all 8. Obviously this isn’t new technology (even to GM), but it’s good to see we’re finally getting it.
