Nokia E61 in 2008 (plus mobile posting test)

I got myself a new handset last Monday because I killed my Nokia N73, but to use the word new is a bit misleading in two respects; the handset was released a while ago now, and it’s actually in used condition, but it’s new to me. The handset is a Nokia E61 (not the E61i) and I have to say I love it. I went from a Nokia N73, and although this handset is missing some features from the N73 like any form of a camera and stereo bluetooth (it’s a bit hard adjusting) the features it has which weren’t available on the N73 kind of make up for it. The screen is the same resolution although bigger and in my preferred orientation of landscape. The reason the screen is landscape is obvious when you take a look at the thing, the QWERTY keyboard (the best feature) takes up half of the phones surface.

Other features I like are the more advanced active standby which shows the message inbox (though without plug-ins), 802.11G WiFi and a notification light which actives with a new message (and maybe missed calls) though this is useless to me since mine came with a book style case.

Tutorial: Changing the transmission fluid and filter on many Holden Commodore models (VS, VT, VX, VY) with the 4L60E Automatic Gearbox

Whew, that’s a long title. This tutorial is going to show you how to change the transmission fluid and filter on a VS, VT, VX and VY Commodore which has the 4L60E automatic gearbox. It could potentially be similar for different cars within the GM family which feature the same 4L60E gearbox but since I can’t guarantee that I’ll just say it’s for the Commodore. Please note some things may be different for the VT and newer as my car is a VS, so please keep that in mind.

First up I’ll list the things required:

Bored? Some things to entertain (part 1)

Posted: December 2nd, 2006 (9:58pm) by Juzza

If you’re ever bored here’s a few fun things you can do to quickly pass the time until the next boring thing has to be done.

1. Go through your music collection (preferably digital - makes it easier) and also open a browser window.. try looking up Music Videos for some of your favorite singles/VA compilations on YouTube or Google Videos.. you’d be surprised how many there actually are, and you get to see the videos to help you realize you don’t like the songs anymore ^_^

2. Keep clicking here: Wikipedia or Uncyclopedia to get random entries , educational and amusing :D

3. Come and post in the DARKCOLD Forums or submit some content to DARKCOLD

More to come in the future!

Do NOT Upgrade Motherboard BIOS from Windows

I have just learned a costly lesson - never update a computer BIOS from within Windows where possible! The other day while still waiting for my replacement LCD to arrive I thought I’d install the latest CVS build of XBOX Media Centre on the good ol’ XBOX, and without realizing I accidentally pressed something causing the XBOX to crash half way through uploading the files.. damn it! Annoyed that I now had to rebuild the hard drive I thought I might as well ruin the computer as well (sarcasm), so I downloaded the Asus update application from their website along with the latest BIOS thinking after the update I’d try to push the CPU a bit further.

I ran the update program and it appeared fine until half way through when a message came up saying something about an invalid checksum before crashing, so I tried to open the application again and it crashed exclaiming that it didn’t find an Asus BIOS. I didn’t think anything of it until I restarted the computer and seeing it no longer started. The stupid update program destroyed the BIOS, forcing me to go and get a replacement motherboard (I replaced with the P5K-E WiFi with a P5KC.. never used the hopeless WiFi AP and DDR3 support is of coarse a bit of future-proofing).

Learn from my mistake: If updating the BIOS and your motherboard supports it, update with the built-in utilities.

BBL - Be Back Later

Just to let everyone know I’m not going to be able to post for a bit because our internet provider decided to disconnect our service (making this post from my parents house). Will resume posting once I’m with our new ISP.

My wife and I just had a baby! As a result I probably won’t be posting for a while as Adrian needs me more at the moment. Here’s a picture :D

Ain’t he cute? More pictures in my Flickr account (being updated every now and then).
