Top Ten Gaming Cliches

I just had to laugh at this list put together by Zeromage at Old Wizard, it’s entirely true. Check out number 2:

2. Food that completely fills your energyPicture this; you’re about to die and are gasping for your final breath. You’re rushed to the emergency room, and what does the doctor give you? A roasted chicken. You eat the chicken and walk out as if nothing happened. Could you imagine what would happen in the real world if all your physical and mental ailments could be solved by a piece of chicken? What would happen to modern medicine? All modern doctors would have to become nutritionists, or at least know how to use an oven. From Gauntlet to Castlevania, the most inane pieces of food are able to make you feel better. There’s gushing blood coming out of your arm from being attacked by a warrior or a skeleton, and somehow a piece of chicken heals it. Are we just supposed to assume they used the roasted chicken as a bandage?

Give the full list a read via Old Wizard.

It’s obviously a fake sub done to the movie “Der Untergang” (also known as “Downfall”).

Computer User Interfaces in the Movies

Posted: December 26th, 2006 (5:01pm) by Juzza

Quite a hilarious and true observation about the state of portrayals of computer UI’s in the movies.

5. Access Denied / Access Granted
Countless scenes involve unauthorized access to some system. Invariably, several passwords are tried, resulting in a giant “Access Denied” dialog box. Finally, a few seconds before disaster strikes, the hero enters the correct password and is greeted by an equally huge “Access Granted” dialog box.

A better user interface would proceed directly to the application’s home screen as soon as the user has correctly logged in. After all, you design for authorized users. There’s no reason to delay them with a special confirmation that yes, they did indeed enter their own passwords correctly.

Although intended as a serious article I can see where the authors coming from and find the humor in it, as it’s all true. You can read the list by clicking here.

That’s right. My team and I tin foiled a fellow designer’s cubicle. So here’s the background: a fellow designer left for vacation this past week. He intends to return the Tuesday after Christmas. What he doesn’t even know yet is that my boss, fellow designer and myself used over 500 square feet of tin foil and wrapped up EVERYTHING in his cube!

Absolutely hilarious.. I love playing these sorts of sandbox style games and just doing stupid things in them, though some will claim RCT is an economic simulation or something, I still call it Sandboxing for what I use it for bwahaha ^_^

Truly the most disturbing thing I’ve found today. Absolutely hilarious though, I wish I had of done this when I used to sell.. but if I end up getting back into eBay selling you know I’m so stealing this idea.
