Victorian Police get a new Vehicle

For those of you who didn’t hear, the local boys and girls in blue have a new car to hoon around in. Loaned from Holden, the new fleet consits entirely of the fuel wasting Hummer H3. Have times become so bad that the Police need a vehicle which has relations to the deadly High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HUMVEE, which the original Hummer H1 is based upon)? Just to remind everybody, here’s a picture of the Hummer H1:

Terrifying. Want to see what our Police are going to be driving around in, striking fear into those who dare to defy the law?

It’s definately… interesting? OK, I’ll admit it’s a bit of a disappointment after hearing the police will be driving Hummers, but it’s to raise awareness of police presense which it’ll easily do. You can read a bit more over at The Age, or hit “continue reading” below to see more images.

Tsar Bomba (Царь-бомба)

Have you ever wondered what that largest, most destructive nuclear weapon ever detonated was? That would be the Tsar Bomba (Russian Царь-бомба) developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Thankfully this thing never went into service, it was only a demonstration of the capabilities of the Soviet Union. With a payload of up to 100 megatons of TNT (although in testing halved to reduce environmental disaster) who knows what the world could have been like had the Cold War not been so “cold”. Scary to think about. Here’s a video showing footage of this devastating weapon (with commentary I believe by Tiff Needel).

Recent Scenes from North Korea

The Boston Globe has put together a fascinating collection of photos taken within the last six month from North Korea. Although (of coarse) they’re not completely representative of what it’s really like with the heavy regulations imposed and all, they’re still interesting to see.

Eric Lafforgue: “The highways in North Korea are huge and carless. Planes could land there. You can even see kids playing in the middle of the road. Security is a major problem because children and old people are not used to seeing cars, so they cross over the roads at any time, without watching out for oncoming traffic. The only cars you can see sometimes on highways are military ones, and most of them are stopped by the side of road, broken down. Or you can also see brand new Mercedes cars belonging to the North Korean officials passing by at very high speeds.” (© Eric Lafforgue) #

Just imagine what they don’t let out. Visit Boston Globe to see all 32 photos and comments.

Top 5 Most Terrifying Weapons

A pretty scary list put together by The Daily Interweb shows some of the 5 most terrifying weapons we (mankind) have created so far. I have to agree with them although EVE from Wal-E had quite some destructive power, oh wait that was just a movie.

2. The Trident SLBM
The result of all of this research leaves us with the Trident II D5, which is a submarine launched ballistic missile.  Deployed by both the United States and United Kingdom, the Trident II is one of the most powerful weapons system in use today.  (America’s most powerful land based missile, the Peacekeeper was taken offline in 2005.)

Nazi Tank Manuals - Hilarity

Posted: February 4th, 2007 (4:53pm) by Juzza

Haha, who would have thought - seriously..

War is supposed to be a serious business, right? Not according to German WWII technical writers who turned the thick, boring tank manuals for “Tiger” & “Panther” tanks into a “Popular Science”/”Playboy”/comic book combination. These juicy manuals proved to be so popular, that they were even translated into Russian and read throughout the Soviet Army tank corps. I could not find the Russian “link-jacked” versions, but here are a couple of genuine Nazi tank manuals, with full versions readily available on the net.
