WTF?! “Incredible” Paintings by Tetsuya Ishida

Uhh.. Incredible? I’d say these have to be the whacked out weird fest champions (those kitties were so cute though). I present the depressing artwork of Tetsuya Ishida.

From Virtual Japan:

Tetsuya Ishida (石田徹也) was a Japanese artist working in Tokyo. He was born in June 16, 1973 in Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. He died May 23, 2005, at the age of 31. His paintings were known for their dark portrayal of Japanese life. The characters in his painting appear unhappy and often their bodies are in pieces or part of some machine or other object. The artist left behind about 180 works created during his 10 year art career.

You can view more of Tetsuya’s work over at toxel.com.

Peeling a Potato - The Japanese Way

You want to know something? The Japanese are very efficient, even when it comes to peeling a potato. This video is proof (they’re speaking Japanese, but not to worry because you get the idea by seeing):

Believe it or not I have actually tried this, and it works!

Asimo Goes Down

Originally posted by Juzza on December 12th, 2006.

The Honda Asimo is an amazing piece of technology and I have absolute respect for him (don’t mess with the robots, man).. but this is pretty funny. In his defense it’s the older version of himself and he’s since been upgraded and could probably destroy those stairs if he wanted to. There’s an important lesson here for DC visitors. When they become self aware use stairs to get away [like in robocop ^_^]! Got to love how the guy quickly comes and puts the shield to stop photographers though it’s a bit too late considering we have this video footage. Disappointed no Japanese guy came running out dressed like Asimo to complete the climb :(

Thirty Cute Japanese Mascots

This is the only thing from Japan I can think of to balance out what I just posted. A list (with pictures) of the top thirty cutest corporate mascots. Domo only comes in at 17 (but then again he’s not that cute). I like the Koala driving the Koala car. Classic.

Because that happens in Australia. Head over to What Japan Thinks to see the full list.

Disturbing Bread

I just got the internet back and the first thing I stumbled upon was quite disturbing - Bread shaped like bloodied up disfiguired human body parts. Delicious!

I don’t think it would be suitable for a homemade hamburger, though I do like the authors idea of filling the head with spaghetti for a truly disgusting meal. If you’re game head over to Inventor Spot to see more pictures.

Crazy Japanese Barcodes

I found these to be very creative ways of camouflaging traditional barcodes, though it’d be a bit harder with a QR Code I imagine.

My favorites are the Pizza and House, which you can see over at darkroastedblend.
