Gmail’s got Themes!

I signed in to my Gmail and saw a message at the top telling me of new themes which were available immediately. No more needing scripts and hacks to change the appearance of Gmail! There’s quite a few, but probably the most interesting is the theme named Terminal:

I like them! “Terminal” looks a lot better (no grey) but obviously I have to protect my email address and emails. You can read more about themes over at this Gmail blog post. I’ve got to hand it to them, they’ve been very busy lately.

Google Street View Team Don’t Want You to Take Their Photo

In the biggest ironic twist of this year, it turns out some of the people working for Google believe anyone capturing footage (video or photo) of them is an invasion of privacy! The Register reports:

Photographer Ian Georgeson explained: “I was standing on public ground taking photos of the cars when one of the drivers came over and said that they didn’t want us to print their faces. He said if I used any shots of him they would sue us, because they were concerned about reprisals.

Classic Google (from 2001!)

This is pretty awesome - to celebrate their 10th anniversary, Google has released a tool to let us do searches from 2001..

We dusted it off and took it for a spin, gobsmacked to see how different the web was in early 2001. “iPod” did not refer to a music player, “youtube” was nonsense, and if you were looking for “Michael Phelps,” chances are you meant the scientist, not the swimmer. “Wikipedia” was brand new.

Of coarse the search term “DARKCOLD” doesn’t take us here (in fact there’s only eight results, all irrelevant). Click here and give it a try for yourself.

For extra fun you could change the homepage of someone who uses Google to this and laugh as they wonder why they can’t find what they’re looking for.

Google Calculator Fails

This is pretty interesting.. what do you get when you try to do the maths sum 399999999999999 - 399999999999998? Answer in this link or image below (in case they fix it).

I knew there was a reason I never used Googles Calculator (besides Winkey+R, calc being so much easier).
