Microsoft Knowledge Base - Error Message: Your Password Must Be at Least 18770 Characters

Posted: August 22nd, 2007 (3:22am) by Juzza

Here’s an interesting error message which appears in the Microsoft Knowledge base.

Error Message: Your Password Must Be at Least 18770 Characters and Cannot Repeat Any of Your Previous 30689 Passwords

Umm OK. It gets better though!

Note that the number of required characters changes from 17,145 to 18,770 with the installation of SP1.

Damn it, I just came up with a good one that was 17,200. Knew I shouldn’t have installed SP1! I’m going to run out of post-it notes now. (tip: be sure to tick the box that says “Remember Password” ^_^)

Look past Vista - Arguments about Next Windows (Blackcomb) already happening

Posted: February 1st, 2007 (2:34am) by Juzza

It is purely speculative on my part to call the next Windows by it’s codename of Blackcomb as Vista was supposed to be a stepping stone to Blackcomb, however during its development Vista gained a lot of features slated for Blackcomb (useless trivia - Longhorn [Vista's codename] is a bar located between two mountains - Whistler [XP's codename] and Blackcomb). Anyway this isn’t a post about naming conventions. I had already read in a few outlets that the next version of Windows, whatever it may be called will feature a “modular design”. During my internet travels I happened upon this post by Sander Marechal.

Google Chrome

Meet the newest Browser out there -  Google Chrome. Revealed a day early because “we hit “send” a bit early on a comic book introducing our new open source browser”. Reading up about Chrome it sounds pretty good, utilizing multiple processes for everything (tabs, extensions, java etc.) allows it to continue going if something else goes wrong (usually Java and extensions) helping to identify the problem and reduce memory leaks.

It’s a fresh way of doing things for this current web 2.0 world and basically as google says it’s like starting from scratch. You can read an official blogpost from Google, or view a comic (yes a comic) explaining things nicely. I think I’ll stick with Firefox though, until the level of Add-Ons for Chrome is just as good (or better).

Windows Server 2008 as a Workstation

I bet you’re thinking “why would anyone want to/bother using Windows Server 2008 as a workstation, when Vista SP1 should be just as good?”. Besides being completely different to everyone you know there are a few benefits. Being a server class operating system it is expected to be much more stable and perform faster than the consumer level Windows Vista (it’s meant to be on 24/7). It’s based on the same code as Vista SP1 so it’s already got the same features of SP1 (including the performance and compatibility fixes).

Of coarse there has to be some compromises, the biggest probably being price and hardware compatability. Oh, and some program installers decide to just not work (as they don’t know what the hell they’re being run on). If you think you want to go through with this please use a 60 day trial version before purchase, unless you’re on MSDN and you probably already have it. Hit the link below to continue
