Firefox 3 is a great browser, but y’know what makes it better? Add-Ons! Now I’m going to share with you, the reader, my top 5 - maybe you’re already using some of these with your Firefox installation. Oh, and not using Firefox? You can download it by clicking here - highly recommended.

#5 - Extended Statusbar

This handy Add-On shows additional information in the statusbar similar to the Opera browser such as how many images have loaded, the speed which the information is coming down and how much the current request has loaded so far. It’s also pretty customizable (I prefer the classic view myself).

#4 - Locationbar²

Provides functionality very similar to Vista’s breadcrumb locationbar; with the mouse over the location bar hit control (on the keyboard) and each level of the URL becomes a clickable link. Has the added benefit of greying out the rest of the URL except for the root which remains in black.

#3 - Tab Popup

Simple but brilliant - hover the mouse over a tab and it draws a preview of it similar to Vista’s taskbar.

#2 - GooglePreview & Google Icon

These two change the behaviour of Googles search results to show a snapshot preview of the website in the search results and the websites favicon respectively.

#1 - Adblock Plus

Certainly a controversial Add-On, this one has provisions to hide advertisements from your view. The benefits of this are obvious, and the ability to add new ads to the list so you don’t see them is thankfully included.

Also worth mentioning

#0 - Grab and Drag - Thought this would be fun to try out, worked well but useless for me as I have a microgear scroll wheel. Lets you grab the page and throw it to scroll.

#-1 - Net Usage Item -  Shows current internet usage.. not in the top 5 list because some ISP’s provide usage meters. Not mine. I swear by this, until the layout of the usage page changes - but it gets updated quickly.
