Christmas (and recently Halloween) decorating has become a big thing at our household leading to many days after work and weekends spent planning and setting up decorations. Local families (and my own small humans) love to come and take photos/enjoy the sight. Recently we've started fundraising for charity which makes the endeavour more worthwhile (electricity bill be damned). Here's a look at this years display at 95% completeness:

House number and street name removed for what little privacy I have left. Note the "sleeping" inflatable to the left which has been replaced, poor fella.

This year's additions are a Mickey Mouse statue, the Merry Christmas lights above the garage door and the curtain lights attached to the garage door (set pieces are reused from previous years and repaired if/where possible).

I'll share two tricks that really helped this year: 76mm brick hooks that took seconds to install but are strong enough to support decorations like heavy rope lights, and using a small PVC pipe to weigh down the curtain lights on the garage door. The latter prevents tangling, keeps the lights (relatively) straight and ensures they don't get jammed in the panels of the garage door when it opens and closes.

In previous years and this year until I found the brick hooks I would use hot glue to secure rope lights to the wall. This is annoying because you need to hold up the light until there's enough glue and quite frankly when it's time to take the decorations down it makes everything messy. It works to hold them up for the month of December in all weather conditions including hot days but like I said, brick hooks are the future (well our future).
